Inpatients, Outpatients, Waiting Lists, Admissions, Medical Histories, Diagnoses, Treatments, Nursing Data, Referrals, Patients Notes, Labs & Radiology Data, Allergies, High Risk, Immunisations, Patient Education, Therapies, Entertainments, Newborn, Billing, Insurance & Discharge Reports.
The system is design to maintain a central clinical database for patients. Once the patient is registered with the system, their clinical data will be available to the other authorised healthcare providing institutions. The system will act as a central hub for clinical information for all related healthcare bodies and professionals.

Apart from Healthcare providers, Insurance companies and government institutions will be the main beneficiaries of this system. The system can also create medical smart-cards for patients, which will hold the patients’ identification and significant current medical history. Patients can visit any medical institution who is equipped to read such smart-cards.

The smart-cards will provide tremendous benefits to patients and medical institutions. For example, if a road traffic victim is brought in unconscious, the hospital physician will very quickly have all his medical history available no matter whether the patient is registered or not registered with the hospital. Thus the system will inform the physician of all the drugs the patient takes, from what diseases they are suffering and what allergies they have. This will prevent the physician from prescribing contra-indicated drugs or giving a treatment dangerous to the unconscious patient in his care.

Once the patient is registered they will have automatic quality improvements from all the ancillary healthcare providing institutions. To illustrate this inter-relationship within the healthcare providing institutions, here are a few conceptual examples, without placing any restrictions upon the functional adequacy of the system.

The General Practitioner will be able to record all medical data regarding consultation, diagnosis, prescriptions, examination findings, investigation results, treatments and social & family elements. This data can be used for decision support functions, research activities, preventative care, statistics and epidemiology.

The system will be invaluable in a hospital environment; a general practitioner is virtually never able to give the full medical history of a referred patient but the system will keep the hospital consultant fully informed, giving essential details so that the correct diagnosis is more quickly made and safe prescription given.

Integration of Health Care Service and other Related Organizations.

In the dentist’s surgery, the patient’s allergy to penicillin will be highlighted to the dentist if he proposes to prescribe penicillin.

In physiotherapy, the physiotherapist will know from the system that his patient is receiving treatment for osteoporosis (softening of the bones) and therefore less likely to accidentally fracture the spinal bones.

In the opticians’ consulting rooms, the system will automatically inform the optician about the patient’s medical problems, so that a diabetic will receive timely and correct treatment.

The nurse in the geriatric nursing home will know that her patient is in danger from cold weather because of heart and lung disease and will therefore need influenza immunisation.

Effective management of healthcare services is achieved through better inter-disciplinary communications. This will assist with the avoidance of duplication of efforts, which will achieve improved economies and will eliminate waste.

The e-Hospital can improve disease control for better healthcare

The system can produce enough data to identify the most common diseases and commonly used pharmaceutical preparations. The epidemiological data from the system will allow social trends to be quickly identified and steps can be taken to prevent medical deterioration. For example, the prescriptions for more drugs for breathing difficulties in a geographical area may indicate excess toxic fumes and an environmental medical officer will be able to investigate at an early stage.

Furthermore, an increase of Diabetes in an area may indicate that socio-economic factors, unemployment or eating habits are to blame. Steps may be taken at an early stage to alleviate the problems found. This could involve educating the public about healthy diets and exercise, which is much more cost-efficient than treatment. This may then require further action at Government level to discourage the consumption of saturated fat simply by addition of the taxes to such products. These actions will produce a nation with less heart disease as well as a reduced incidence of diabetes. Knock-on effects of these policies could be fewer psychological problems as a result of people being more content with their state of health and wellbeing.

Overall benefits will achieve economies in medical services, ambulance services and also in police services.

Epidemiological information for Hospital administration and Health Ministries

The system optimises patient safety through the expert system interface

Patients’ safety with automatic positive guidance for better treatment is an important feature. The system automatically alerts the medical user to significant adverse reactions, allergies, high risk factors, drug interactions, contra-indications, suitability of age, suitability during pregnancy and breast feeding and other attributes, such as side effects and cost of preparation.

Support services automatically getting departmental requests

The system helps to achieve standardisation with positive guidance

Through expert system interfacing mechanisms the system makes automatic therapeutic suggestions and provides positive guidance for diagnoses and acts as a teaching aid and a tool for creating better treatment standards.

e-Hospital can improve healthcare efficiency, increases quality of care, reduces costs, reduces hospitalisation and makes better usage of international standards.

The system will enable medical planners to make healthcare in their country more efficient by virtue of its ability to permit improved inter-disciplinary communications and by eliminating duplication of efforts. Along with usage of the international classification of diseases (ICD/10) it will standardise healthcare in line with World Health Organization requirements.

HIIMS with Smartcard

The smart card medical records systems that's so effective you'll wonder how you ever managed before!

Horizon Intelligent Medical System (HIIMS) is a "State-of-the-Art" system, for use by doctors, nurses, health care managers and administrators. Using smart cards to store medical records, the system not only solves your record storage problems but also makes the medical record more accessible. It assists in the running of any hospital or practice making it more efficient, and, due to its low cost, it is available to institutions which previously could not afford large clinical systems.

Its uses include preventive care, research activities, decision support, accounting and epidemiology. Its operations could not be more straightforward; each patient is issued with a credit-card sized smart card,

which stores the patient's medical history, so the patient can travel between consultants and his record travels with him - even if this is between different hospitals or doctors or even countries!

The benefits of this system for your institution are great.

Not only can doctors learn immediately about patient's medical histories, but also which drugs they are currently taking. So that each time a doctor treats a patient he can do it safely and appropriately - ensuring the treatment or prescription won't interact adversely with the patient's current therapy.

This is good for the patient and gives negligence protection to the doctor.

Flexible and yet easy to operate

The system has been designed to be used by people who aren't computer experts, so even through it’s a powerful medical tool, it's flexible and simple to set up and operate.

Diagnoses are recorded using ICD-10. read or RCGP codes, although if a diagnosis is more complicated or more detail is needed, the system is flexible enough to allow free text to be entered. Any medical information can be entered including examination details, prescriptions and treatments. Furthermore, because of its search capabilities, it is far more useful than any other system, saving you time by allowing records to be scanned with reference to disease codes or by referring to free text. This makes the system useful for surveys, statistical analysis and preventative care. HIIMS is self-checking, constant "on-line" help and positive guidance are in-built features of the system.

An Intelligent system with self-checking

So why do we describe the system as being intelligent?

That's because it's self-checking. You are automatically warned when the patient would have an adverse reaction to treatment or a prescription. In addition the system has details of all prescribed drugs, so it knows when and which drugs have been prescribed and allows you to deal with them appropriately. HIIMS will analyse all the relevant data, such as previous consultations, diagnoses, treatments and general family history. It can use this data and inter-relate these factors to act as a decision support function. It will automatically alert the doctor to significant adverse reactions of drugs, related allergies, high risks factors, drug interactions, contra-indications, side effects and perceived unsuitability of drugs for patients due to certain factors such as pregnancy and breast feeding. It will even guide the doctor on a review of certain medical aspect of patient's histories using user-defined protocols.

All this lets you treat patients more confidently then ever before, even with patients that you may be seeing for the first time.

Available to all Hospitals--large or small

The HIIMS software can be used on your existing computers, whether they are micros, minis, or a mainframe, so you don't need to invest in lots of hardware. And due to the low unit cost of each smart card, this cost can even be passed to the patient.

Because the system has modular design you can add to it as your organization grows, allowing you to invest in a system suitable to your particular needs. It can cope with an unlimited number of records, the only restriction is the size of your computer. There isn't even a limit set on the length of the patients records, giving you insurance against obsolescence.

Making your organization safer and more efficient

HIIMS is a system that will revolutionize the running of your organization. It has uses relevant to all levels of your organization, leading to a safer and more efficient working environment.
